Is delighted to announce that

Our Brother in Christ, Fr. Elia Khalife

A monk of Mount Lebanon
(The Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East)
A Research Associate of the Oriental Faculty, University of Oxford
Founder and Director of Antioch Centre, Oxford (www.AntiochCentre.net)
Has Very Kindly Agreed to Deliver Three Teaching Sessions
23rd and 24th July 2010 at Lowton Independent Methodist Church,
Newton Road (Part of St Helen’s Road), Lowton, nr Leigh

Lecture 1: Friday, 23rd July at 7:00 pm : “The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” (Acts 11:26). ‘The Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East: Yesterday and Today’
Christianity has been surviving in the Near and Middle East for 2000 years. Through these long years, communities have been struggling to keep bearing witness for Jesus Christ in that part of the troubled world. A picture of the history of the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, and will inform us about the Church in our days.
Lecture 2: Saturday, 24th July at 10 am: “Ancient Christian Texts Revealed: A Project on Manuscripts in Aramaic, Syriac, Arabic, Greek and Georgian”
Thousands of ancient manuscripts from the earliest Eastern Christian Communities are to be found in the libraries of Europe, many of them unread and unknown. In the past decade, Fr. Elia has been working on those manuscripts. He has made some important discoveries that throw light on the theology and life of the Church. His work consists in making known the extent of this great treasury of Christianity. He has published some of the texts, and some that have immediate practical value he has translated. In his talk, he will share some of his discoveries with us.

Our Thanks to Lowton Independent Methodist Church and to Fr. Elia.
